Dr. Kong’s research focuses on: (1) Moving sensing based modal identification, damage detection, health monitoring and performance evaluation of bridge structures; (2) Applying machine/deep learning and computer vision techniques to identify spatiotemporal and weight information of traffic vehicles, to characterize structure dynamic responses and modal information, and to track and manage overloaded vehicles; (3) Bridge scour research including scour mechanism, fluid/wave-soil/particle-structure interaction, detection and monitoring methods, countermeasures and rehabilitation materials/techniques.
